A few of the folks on my flist have been bemoaning the fact that they don't post as often as they used to, mainly because they don't feel that they've got enough interesting things to post about.

That just about sums me up too, and yet I enjoy reading the everyday doings of my flist even if they haven't been getting up to anything wildly exciting, so maybe I should post more about the minutiae of my everyday life...

Today we found ourselves with some free time that we weren't expecting to have. We'd planned on visiting a friend who hasn't been very well lately, but as the OH is suffering with a bit of a chest infection we decided it wouldn't be wise to inflict his germs upon our poorly friend. And then we found out that we wouldn't be needed to pick granddaughter Izzy up from school today as she's got chickenpox and her mum had taken a day off work to stay at home with her. So, as it was a lovely sunny day, we decided to go off to the coast and have a little stroll.

Typically, it had clouded over a bit by the time we got there, and there was quite a chilly breeze blowing, but it was pleasant nevertheless and it was nice to stretch our legs a bit. So, here's a few piccies of St Mary's Island for you...

Our little outing was rounded off nicely by a couple of pints in one of our favourite pubs, so all in all it was a good day out, and all the better for being unplanned!

A beach! Lucky you to have a free day, and thank you for posting so we can enjoy your day too :) I hope OH and Izzy recover soon (I'm sure the beer helped) (not Izzy, obviously *g*)

Here's to unplanned days out!

Yes, post more! I love hearing about everyone! And, you know, your life is exotic to me. *g*

I do not wish to ask how old Izzy is. Because we have been on LJ a long time, and she was not quite a baby then, I think. Oh, dear. *g* I hope it's an easy episode of chicken pox for her.

What a gorgeous place to have a stroll! Even if it was chilly. Beautiful. I love the lighthouse. Thank you for sharing!

One of the finer things in the universe is a 'perfect day' that comes out of the blue. This one looks and sounds just lovely. *g*

Lovely pics! This is Whitley Bay, yes? I've never been there, but it has that light, and the look of the coast, that I associate with the north-east.

Wow, it's a long time since I have been to St Mary's - but thank you for that unexpected trip back!

Sorry for Izzy, though, but if she'd going to have it, better now than later (she says ruefully, as one who had it later!)

Hi, good to see you! And lovely pictures too *g*
Wishing Izzy well from her chickenpox, but yay for the unexpected bonus free day :-)

I agree with everything you said. I'd love to post about my exciting life, but it's so boring and monotonous. I enjoy seeing posts from my flist and living vicariously through them. :)

Anyway, I hope OH is feeling better and Izzy isn't itching too much and gets through the chickenpox without being too uncomfortable.

Love the pics and so glad you had a great day! Next time have a pint for me! :)

I'm all for unexpected free days out and random posting, especially the sort of random with such lush piccies, thank you!

Unplanned days are invariably the best, aren't they!

Neither Izzy nor the OH are too bad, thanks. Izzy's main peeve is that her illness is going to encroach upon the Easter hols!

Hmmm, don't know about "exotic" LOL

Izzy turned 8 years old in January - time flies, doesn't it!

What a gorgeous place to have a stroll!

It is a lovely spot. The town itself is a bit on the shabby side and something of a case of 'faded glory', but a short walk along the coast brings you to the lighthouse. It can only be reached along a causeway at low tide, so it's rather magical.

This is Whitley Bay, yes?

Yes! Spot on! Whitley Bay itself has seen better days (although I believe there is some regeneration planned), but St Mary's Island and the lighthouse are lovely.

We don't go anywhere near as often as we should, considering how close it is to home. Must admit, I've never actually been up to the top of the lighthouse though!

Yeah, I'm sure Izzy will sail through it. She's more upset that half of the time that the doctor told her to take off school will be taken up by Easter holidays!

I'm sure we all think that our lives are boring and monotonous, but they're probably not really! *g*

Izzy's not too bad at the moment, thanks. Her Mum has plenty of Calamine Lotion in reserve to combat the itching!

I will indeed have a pint for you next time. Or maybe even two! *g*
