So, one minute the RT has me doing a happy dance and the next I'm going "WTF??"...

Quoting from the 'What we've been watching' column -

"You'd be hard pressed to come up with a programme title less tempting than 'Kevin Whately on Dementia', but let's try. How about 'Giles Brandreth on Shingles' or 'An Audience with Martin Shaw'?"

What the hell is that supposed to mean? Excuse me, Mr Columnist, but I happen to know a couple of hundred people who'd find 'An Audience with Martin Shaw' extremely tempting...

OK, so reading through the article, what the bloke's trying to say is that actors make "dreadful presenters". In answer to which, I'll merely point him in the direction of 'Aviators'...

What a bloody cheek!

Bastards. It's that old saying again: Those that can, act; those that cant, become critics!

Gaaaah! Gaaaah, and gaaaargh and garrrrgh You know, a girl could lose all nostalgia for that rag, thinking about the way they seem to treat MS's work these days...

What a strange thing to say, and why pick on MS? He's done quite a few presenting jobs, very successfully from the ones I've seen.

Yeah, I had exactly the same reaction - 'wtf??' followed by - 'who bloody says!! I'd rather watch MS in Aviators than listen to you wittering on any day, you arrogant s**t!'

Bloody critics, what do they know!

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] byslantedlight - this is just another example of the BBC's attitude to one of the best actors they've got.

Gah.

The man is clearly misguided. 'An Audience with Martin Shaw'? Yes please.

Giles Brandreth isn't even an actor, he's a writer. Not normally my cup of tea, but he wrote and presented a jolly good short prog. on Radio 4 recently about literary figures in 1890s London (Conan Doyle, RL Stephenson, Bram Stoker, Oscar Wilde), which was marred only by him completely failing to mention Raffles. Presumably the writer of the column just thought of Brandreth and immediately thought of shingles. I can understand that.
