Progress of sorts...

Having spent a goodly number of hours tonight going through all the possible LJ layouts available to me, and more importantly those that would also enable me to use my new banner (because, let's face it, I am pretty chuffed at the way it's turned out) I've finally settled upon one that suits me perfectly. I've still got a little bit of tweaking to do with the colours, but all in all I'm pretty happy with it. Many thanks are due to draycevixen for the very helpful tips that she gave me (and I may yet need to call upon her expertise...).

My one regret is that I didn't think to save the banner that has served me well for the past few years - it was created and uploaded remotely for me, and I never did have an actual copy saved in my files. Oh well...

Next job is to sort out the upload of Warship and a couple of other shows in time for the Not-Pros ProsWatch. Jack the Ripper tomorrow! Yay! Haven't watched it for ages...

ETA: Now here's a piece of luck - went to check my emails on the PC on the way to bed (as is my wont) and realised that as I hadn't reloaded my LJ page on the PC since making all the changes, my old layout was still visible. Which means that I have been able to save my old banner after all. Feeling rather pleased about that, as I would have hated to have lost such an old and familiar friend.

Really nice. I'm impressed. I love the colors and the pics. Nice and clean, and easy for old peeps to read like me. It's really hard reading some of the darker LJs.

It's a bit weird though - the colours are showing up slightly differently on my PC than on my laptop, so it's got me wondering how they appear to other people.

That's not unusual. I remember the first time I saw my website on my daughter's computer. The colours were indeed different as was the text. That's when I dropped the fancy text and used a plain one. My technie sonny-boy explained that every version of an OS makes things look differently to others, plus browsers and settings. I generally check my stuff on both of my computers to see how things look on Windows and then Linux, plus two different sizes of screens.

I kept experimenting with new styles, but kept coming back to the same one on the grounds of both colour and readability. And when the lovely thefakebook did me a fabulous banner, the decision was made for me *g*.
