What I did in London...
Sep. 14th, 2009 08:53 pmArrived back home on Saturday after a great week in London. We walked miles and miles in gorgeous, sunny weather, had some lovely meals, supped several lovely pints (Young's Special and Fuller's London Pride, mainly!) and generally had a nice, relaxing time.
We also caught a great show, La Cage Aux Folles, which we both agreed was possibly the best musical we'd ever seen on stage. Fantastic numbers, hilarious farce, absolutely brilliant acting, and to cap it all, such a tender love story. And speaking of the acting - I was gobsmacked when I realised that the bloke playing Albin/Zaza (the role that John Barrowman just happens to be taking over tonight) was none other than Roger Allam, who I'd last seen playing the villainous, corrupt Supermac in Ashes To Ashes! To see him playing two such diverse roles so brilliantly just blew me away. Mr Allam is now officially up there in my top ten.
Anyway, without further ado...

Wandsworth Common - a nice area...

With nice neighbours...............and where even the graffiti artists are well educated

It also boasts some very nice pubs - The County Arms...... The Hope...

...and the best of the lot, The Nightingale
But not all our time was spent in pubs...

Tower Bridge, with the 'Girl and Dolphin' sculpture in the foreground... Wapping High Street

Trafalgar Square - one more occupant of the Fourth Plinth... and an old chap who was trying his hand at being a 'living statue' but couldn't stop moving! LOL

OK, another pub *g* The George Inn, Southwark, which dates from 1677 and is London's last remaining galleried coaching inn. Dickens was a regular here, and the previous inn on the site was frequented by Shakespeare. That's quite a claim to fame, eh?

And finally a stroll along the Hertford Union Canal - hard to believe that this is slapbang in the middle of the East End of London!
No Pros location spotting this time, I'm afraid (I'm planning on making up for that when I'm back down in the Smoke for the Scarsdale bash in December! *g*) But here's a question for any Ashes to Ashes fans on my flist - I spotted this pub on our travels, and was sure I'd seen it in A2A. Am I wrong or am I right?

Lovely icon, btw - Noel Coward's 'London Pride' has been known to reduce me to tears when I've had a few sherbets... *g*

Date: 2009-09-18 10:04 pm (UTC)Yeah, we'll definitely do the George (although it is a bit touristy, I must admit).
Last time I was in Wapping High St was on a school trip, 43 years ago! We went there to see the docks and warehouses in action, hard to believe now when the whole place is taken up by £1million plus apartments!!
