Remember Me?
May. 17th, 2012 10:37 pmEarlier today
byslantedlight was wondering why so few of her flist seemed to be posting on LJ these days. By coincidence I'd made my mind up to post something tonight, mainly because yesterday I realised that it's three months since I last updated here. Three months!! I don't think I've gone that long without posting since I first signed up to LJ!!
I suppose one of the main reasons I haven't posted is that I haven't really been doing anything worth talking about. Life's pretty humdrum, same ol' routine every day, tied to the house mostly apart from a few hours on a Monday when Mother-in-law goes to her day centre (assuming she doesn't cry off at the last minute, which isn't unknown) and a few hours on a Saturday or Sunday when one of our daughters comes to Granny-sit. We never really get enough time to venture very far though, and usually end up in the pub!
It's all very frustrating, and I'll admit to being down in the dumps a lot of the time. And that's another reason why I haven't posted much - I know that a lot of folks on my flist have got problems of their own, and they won't want to hear me whinging on all the time.
So, in a nutshell...
Good things - We're going on holiday in two months time! Four days staying with our friend in South London then on to Somerset for ten days. Unfortunately the lovely little cottage that we've stayed in on our previous two holidays is no longer available. The owners are selling up and the cottage is being marketed as a guest suite to the house, not as a holiday let. We're gutted, it was absolutely perfect for us. So, we're spending far more than we can really afford and have booked into the pub for ten days. Oo-er... And I'm rather perturbed to discover that our visit will coincide with the Village Fete, which seems to give rise to some eyebrow-raising shenanigans each year. We might never be heard of again! With any luck... Second good thing - booked a week's holiday in London to coincide with the Scarsdale do in December. So, no rushed, one-night-only trip this year! Yay!
Bad things - The two holidays will use up all of MIL's respite care allowance for the year, so no other nights away for us until the new annual allowance starts next April :(( Second bad thing, my bloody laptop's on the blink again. It's out of warranty now so I took it to a local techie guy who got it going again but had to wipe the hard drive to do it. Luckily I'd backed it all up the previous week. It's not working too badly now but is a tad temperamental - for example, it seems to be impossible for me to disable the touch pad now and while I'm typing the cursor is darting all over the screen. It drives me nuts! It also seems a bit reluctant to boot up on occasion. I've reconciled myself to the fact that a new lappie might be required sooner rather than later and so I'm trying to raise a bit of cash by flogging a few bits and pieces. Ebay is my friend - 50 quid added to the laptop fund so far!
So... I didn't intend this to be a whingy post but I'm afraid it has turned out that way after all. But at least I'm posting again!

A Village Fete, eh? (Yes, can't help it, Larton springs to mind. *g*)
Believe me, the place is extremely Lartonesque, and that's why I love it so much. They're all horse-mad and just a tiny bit crackers!
Arrgh for the laptop woes! I'm glad it's working again, but...arrgh. I shall hope for eager buyers. *g*
The bloody thing's playing up again now so I'm taking it back to the techie guy on Monday :(( But I've had a good day on Ebay today so that's a little bit more toward the lappie fund!

It's driving me up the wall at the moment, the cursor's jumping about all over the screen while I'm typing. Grrr... It's going back to the techie guy on Monday... A few more things sold on Ebay today though, so the laptop fund is slowly growing!

Must admit I havent posted on here for yonks. Might have to. And oh, does this mean no chance of a York visit? If not, I might have to try and come up and visit you in Newcastle for a day, if only to bring you your goodies *g*

Date: 2012-05-19 09:19 pm (UTC)Yeah, it's a shame that we couldn't get sorted with a bigger apartment. I'm sure you'll find a roomie easily enough though.
I'm deffo up for a day in York (as long as it's a Saturday), we'll get it sorted when you get home from Cornwall, ok?
Hope you manage to see this while you're away - have a great holiday, mate!

Date: 2012-05-18 10:26 am (UTC)But I'm so pleased you've got something to look forward to, I think that's almost essential for survival and I always think the anticipation is almost as important as the holiday itself.
It's good to see you here again, please come back soon!

Date: 2012-05-19 09:47 pm (UTC)I will make an effort to post more, and I'll try not to be so negative next time.

You're not wrong, I'm virtually marking each day off on the calendar! *g*

Date: 2012-05-18 08:08 pm (UTC)Lovely to hear from you - and if you can't share your woes with us it would be a sad thing *glomps*
I'm so glad you'll be getting some time off for good behaviour - though speaking from bitter experience, you want to watch out for the village fete. They can get nasty - think Midsomer Murders *g*
