londonronnieIn my last post I mentioned that we'd booked a holiday in July that we couldn't really afford. Ten days B&B in a pub as opposed to the self-catering that we'd normally do approximately doubles the cost, plus it means eating out all the time instead of cooking for ourselves so spending money probably doubles as well.
Our philosophy was that life is so crappy at the moment, we just didn't care. We needed something to look forward to and we weren't going to stint ourselves. Nevertheless, the thought that the bills would still have to be paid when we got home was still a niggle, and I'll admit to a few moments of panic when doing some number-crunching.
But fear not, folks. Somebody up there likes us!
This morning the OH bought a couple of scratchcards on impulse. We used to buy them regularly but have more or less cut them out recently in an effort to cut down on expenses. Anyway, scratchcard no. 1 was a £10 winner! Very nice! And scratchcard no. 2... netted us a cool thousand quid!! Talk about gobsmacked!! The holiday was paid for!! Woo Hoo!!
But that's not the end of the story... this evening the OH decided to blow a tenner of our winnings on a horse. He went into the bookies, sized things up and then decided that he didn't fancy the horse's chances after all. On the way out he stuck some money in the bandit... and won 400 quid!!
What?? Eh?? Someone pinch me... Nothing like this has ever happened to us before!!
