Still Going Mad In Somerset...
Jul. 23rd, 2012 10:50 amThis has been a strange sort of holiday for us. We’re usually to be found on the top of a hill, or in the depths of a forest, but this time we’ve hardly strayed more than a few miles from the village. And we certainly haven’t done the strenuous sort of walking that we normally do. I think it’s because we’re basically enjoying being lazy; spending the afternoon sitting reading on our little patio, having a stroll down the main street (ie, only street) of the village and chatting to whoever happens to be about, and of course, there’s the pub... Nothing exciting really, but all things that we just don’t get the chance to indulge in during our ‘real’ life. Going to bed early is something of a luxury too, I’ve been in bed by 10pm every night, I think! At home I have to wait up to give MIL her 10.30pm medication, then spend about 20 minutes getting her into bed, and given that our alarm goes off at 6am every day I’m usually completely knackered by the time I roll into bed and equally knackered the next morning. Not so here – up with the lark at about 7, bright eyed and bushy tailed, and raring to go!
Mind you, the laziness as regards walking might also be due in part to the fact that we’ve come away without a bloody map! We have never, ever done that before and we’ve been kicking ourselves all week. There's also the small matter of a camera tripod which 'im indoors bought himself a few months ago, specifically for use whilst taking photos of the gorgeous night skies here. Yep, that's still at home too... It’s indicative, I think, of the disorganised state we were in when we were packing. Not like us at all, but then we seemed to have so many other things on our minds that had to be sorted before we left home...
So lazy have been our days that I can’t even remember what we did on Thursday... Hmmm, I think we went into Minehead and took advantage of Mr Wetherspoon’s free wifi to post my last LJ update... and the rest of the day’s a blank!
Friday is quite clear though – spent the afternoon with lovely Pros-y friends! Namely
caffyolay and Mr Caffy,
rosie55 and
moonlightmead! Lots of great food, great drink and great chat and it all zipped by far too quickly. Our meet-ups are always a high spot of the holiday when we come down to this neck of the woods!
Saturday... and the much awaited Luxborough Village Fete! You know what? I’m going to wait until I can post photos before I do a post on the fete. It deserves nothing less! And I’ve also decided that I’m going to hold fire on any other posts too, because we really do need photos! So, the rest of my holiday reports will have to wait until I get home. Sorry!
