Ten Years And Counting...
Aug. 4th, 2012 11:07 pmAugust is here!
It's not a particularly momentous month in our family - no birthdays, no anniversaries, nothing to make a song and dance about...
But this August is a bit of a milestone for me, because it was in August 2002 that I stumbled upon something called "slash fiction".
The discovery was a complete accident (or, more likely, kismet!). I'd been looking for gay fic online and had found the website of an author who said that she wrote both gay fiction and slash fiction - I've no idea now whose website it was, it was one of those cases where you click on a link, then another, then another, and then forget where you started from in the first place! I can remember having to Google the word "slash" because I didn't have a clue what it meant!
When I followed the links that Google threw up, and read some of the slash fic on various sites (I think 'Britslash' - now sadly defunct - was the first) it was something of a revelation. I knew that this was the genre of fiction that I'd been searching for so long. It was like coming home!
My introduction to Pros fic, and thence to the fandom itself, came via the Wayward Books version of Larton, which is why the story holds such a special place in my heart. And that's what led to ten glorious years that have given me so much pleasure, introduced me to so many wonderful friends (some of the best friends I've ever had, in fact) and given me some of the best times of my life.
So, thank you to Pros! Thank you to Pros Fandom! Thank you to all my lovely Pros-y friends! And last but certainly not least, thank you to our lovely lads!!
And here's to the next ten years!!

Date: 2012-08-05 11:54 am (UTC)I must be getting up to that time too. I know I diddled around a bit with other fandoms, which had a bit of slash in them, THEN I found
I'd probably be locked away in the funny farm if it wasn't for The Pros.

Date: 2012-08-05 09:10 pm (UTC)I did buy the dvds a couple of months later, but I didn't have a dvd player at the time, which was probably a bit silly now I think about it! LOL
Yay for Pros!
