Goodbye

My dear, dear friend Zoe lost her fight yesterday afternoon. She passed away at 4pm. Her fiance Mike was with her and was holding her hand as she left us.

I will miss her more than words can say - my drinking buddy, my 'partner-in-crime', my roomie on so many mad weekends away... It's difficult to believe that I won't be seeing her again.

Here's a photo, taken on one of our last jaunts before she was diagnosed with the illness - Zoe with Colin Wells at WINK in May 2014. This is how I'll always remember her...

It's really so terribly, terribly sad.

That picture indeed is how she should be remembered - such a lovely smile and a lovely, generous, giving, caring person.

Oh this is so sad. I feel for Zoe's family and for you too, Sally. I hope she didn't suffer in her final hours and that the memories of the good times will help in time her nearest and dearest to cope with their grief.

Seeing her in this beautiful picture I am reminded of a familiar face. I am not sure, but had Zoe also attended the CI5Mas in Hornsey last November? I was there too (though I didn't attend WINK 2014).

We all knew it was coming, but even so...it is impossible to believe. I'm so grateful that I was able to meet her. We had such wonderful exchanges on LJ, too--sharing stories and icons and such a love for the lads. She was one of the first people I met when I got on LJ. How can this have happened? I'll miss hearing about your jaunts. (I remember that weekend in Soho as well. *g*) We will all miss her.

Like many, I met Zoe through fandom and LJ and my first unforgettable Nattercon, followed by several cons, Christmas at the Scarsdale, holidays and other get-togethers. Such a sadness, how can someone who was so young and who was so much fun and radiated joie de vivre and friendliness be gone? Dear Zoe. She was one of the first Pros people I ever met in person - so caring, funny and down-to-earth - and I'll always associate her with great times at the OPP, especially quiz nights, Triv Pursuits and watching Gillette Soccer Saturday for the Leeds score. I remember Zoe especially clearly from the last gathering at the GNRT - she was just like in this lovely photo, so full of joy and enthusiasm, sharing her wonderful sense of fun with Mike and her fellow fans.

Have messaged Mike etc.. but only just got on here since Zoe's death. I'm so glad I got to meet her a few times at least in person, but it does seem so unfair that some of the most lively and colourful characters in the fandom seem to be under attack by forces outside our control at the moment. It's shit, it really is. So sorry that you've lost such a great friend and ally in Zoe, and Mike has lost a soulmate. There really are no words, and I so hoped she'd buck the odds, but we'll all remember her and she'll live on that way at least..:-( xxxxxx
